Walton Court is a landmark residential development in Walton-on-Thames, set on the site of the former Birds Eye headquarters. The project, designed by Broadway Malyan and Gillespies for Crest Nicholson, will introduce 375 new homes across a series of striking buildings. The development’s architecture takes inspiration from the original site’s strong geometric façade, with the new design featuring full-height angled components that create dynamic patterns of light and shadow throughout the day. The scheme also includes a central ‘jewel’ building, framed by brick pavilions, and communal courtyard gardens.

Project Breakdown

The Walton Court development introduces 375 spacious apartments, each designed with generous balconies that offer private outdoor space for residents. In addition, a variety of communal terraces and outdoor spaces provide shared areas for relaxation and socialising, fostering a strong sense of community.

Given the majority of the properties are intended as rentals, the project team sought materials that aligned with their vision for sleek, contemporary design while also being safe, low-maintenance, and durable. The height of the balconies added another critical layer to the design, requiring all materials to meet stringent fire safety regulations. This combination of aesthetic, practical, and regulatory requirements shaped the selection of materials used throughout the project.

The Solution

Crest Nicholson required materials that were not only visually appealing but also safe and low-maintenance, particularly with the majority of properties being rentals. EnviroBuild’s Pro-Grip Anthracite Grey Aluminium Decking was the perfect choice, offering a modern look that complemented the project’s architectural style. Paired with the MESA Aluminium Joists and Steel Pedestals, this system provided a long-lasting, rust-resistant solution ideal for high-traffic communal areas.

Crucially, the decking met all fire safety regulations, essential for the elevated balconies. Its slip-resistant surface ensures safety for residents, while the low-maintenance nature of the materials makes it a cost-effective solution for long-term management.
